Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help coordinate the technical planning, build-out, integration, and commissioning of a new national television news facility.
  • Oversee installation and deployment of:
    • News control rooms
    • Studios and production environments
    • Master control systems
    • Video routers and Multiviewers
    • Audio infrastructure
    • Intercom and IFB systems
    • Graphics and playback systems
    • Transmission and contribution systems
    • Satellite, fiber, and IP transport systems
  • Deploy and maintain enterprise-class broadcast IT infrastructure including:
    • SMPTE ST 2110 and IP-based workflows
    • Core networking and switching.
    • Storage and media asset systems
    • Virtualized environments
    • Cloud and remote production workflows
    • Cybersecurity and redundancy strategies
  • Support mission-critical live news operations and breaking news coverage.
  • Work closely with newsroom leadership, operations, production teams, vendors, architects, and systems integrators throughout all phases of the project.
  • Develop engineering standards, SOPs, preventative maintenance programs, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in high-pressure live environments.
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead an engineering team capable of supporting a 24/7 news operation.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response support as required.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Full-Time, management-level engineering leadership role, on site in Washington DC office.
  • 10 years of broadcast engineering experience in television news, network broadcasting, or large-scale live production environments.
  • Proven experience designing, building, upgrading, or commissioning broadcast facilities.
  • Strong understanding of modern IP-based broadcast infrastructure and live news workflows.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of:
    • Broadcast signal flow.
    • Video and audio infrastructure.
    • Networking and enterprise IT systems.
    • Windows and Linux environments.
    • Virtualization and storage platforms.
    • Broadcast automation and newsroom systems.
    • Experience supporting 24/7 mission-critical operations.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure during live broadcasts and breaking news situations.
    • Ability to create, read, and interpret engineering drawings, technical schematics, and systems documentation.
    • SBE certification and/or advanced IT certifications are a plus.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
