I. JOB OVERVIEW
| Job Description Summary: | The George Washington University (GW) Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is housed under the Office of the Vice Provost of Research. The office provides programming around innovation, education, venture creation, and making connections to support GW entrepreneurs and the Mid-Atlantic startup community. Overview: The Associate Program Director, Incubation Programs, is tasked with directing the creation and management of the university’s I-Corps-based Lean Startup training, startup incubation, and mentorship programs. The incumbent will set the strategy for GWOIE’s incubation and commercialization efforts for faculty, students, alumni, and international teams, including recruitment of teams and programs related to this effort, as well as assisting the AVP, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, in developing the intellectual frameworks for the programs and their objectives. The position will have responsibility for mentor and instructor recruitment and training, as well as all operational programs under which these professionals serve. Responsibilities:

| Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

The position will have responsibility for mentor and instructor recruitment and training, as well as all operational programs under which these professionals serve. Responsibilities: Management of the NSF I-Corps program, including team recruitment, screening, instruction, mentoring, and team application processes related to the I-Corps program. This includes active participation in the Mid. Atlantic Hub administration and management of related activities, e.g., reporting, curriculum, DEI, etc., as well as management of partner relationships in Virginia and DC. Manage the direction of the incubation programs. This includes creating materials and procedures for programs along the continuum of the “Innovator’s Journey” in cooperation with the Associate Program Director, Education Programs. These programs include Introduction to Lean Innovation, Regional Short Courses, and other I-Corps training programs, OIE’s commercialization and business incubation programs, and the Mentors-in-residence (MIR) programs, along with other mentorship programs. Duties include curriculum creation and maintenance, selection criteria, program assignments, and performance expectations. Recruitment and training of mentors and instructors for OIE’s commercialization training and incubation programs, working with the Supervisor, Program Operations and Program Associate, Marketing and Communications. Ensure that OIE has a sufficient pool of outside help to staff our Subject Matter Experts, mentors, instructors, and our Mentors-in-Residence programs. Coordinate with the Supervisor, Program Operations (SOP), to ensure that the OIE instructional calendar includes all activities under your direction. Advising the AVP on the strategic direction of the office and its programmatic offerings. Investigate and recommend grants germane to OIE and assist in the grant writing process as required, including evaluating prospective grants, contributing to the application process, and executing operational or administrative duties as required under awarded grants. Assist SOP and other designated personnel in the execution of international programs. This may include developing programs, creating syllabi, and participating in programs, as well as assisting the AVP in maintaining certain client relationships. Experience in training or educational programs at the collegiate or corporate level is highly desired. Ability to create and deliver course material in Lean Startup, Customer Discovery, and basic business skills is a plus. Ability to work effectively with high-level university officials across all academic disciplines. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience with business plan or entrepreneurship competitions logistics, working with early stage/student entrepreneurs, co-working spaces, and/or incubators/accelerators is a plus. Demonstrated experience in event management, logistics, and planning; equally comfortable with large- and small-scale events, as well as in-person and virtual events, is desired. Familiarity with virtual event hosting platforms (Zoom, WebEx) is preferred. Demonstrated interest in and understanding of the startup ecosystem, entrepreneurship, innovation, and working with students is desired.
